What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is a dermal filler used for cosmetic correction of facial folds and wrinkles, to restore volume to the skin in areas such as smile lines or frown lines. By adding a dermal filler, the skin volume lost due to aging and exposure to sun and other elements can be reversed. Additionally, Juvederm can be used to treat moderate to severe vertical lip lines.

Juvederm can be used to correct a variety of wrinkles, smile lines and creases. Also, Juvederm may be used to correct vertical lip lines. The doctor can give you more specific guidance as to what parts of your face can best benefit from Juvederm treatment during your consultation.

What is Juvederm made up of?

Juvederm is a composed of Hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin. Because hyaluronic acid retains as much as 1000 times its weight of water, it provides volume and hydration to the skin. Juvederm is a smooth hyaluronic acid gel filler which the doctor can use to treat wrinkles and folds of the skin. Juvederms HYLACROSST technology creates cross-linking that provides correction that lasts for up to 6 months or more.

How long does Juvederm last?

Juvederm is carefully stabilized in order to maximize the lengths of the cosmetic effect, and studies have show that the results of Juvederm generally last for about 6 months. Most patient's schedule Juvederm treatments 2 or 3 times per year.

Do I need to do anything special before the treatment?

There are no special tests required prior to Juvederm treatment; however the use of aspirin, ibuprofen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications or other supplements that cause increased tendency of bleeding or bruising should be avoided for the 10-14 days prior to treatment.

The doctor uses topical and/or local anesthetic in order to minimize any discomfort during the Juvederm treatment. Many patients say that they are surprised at how easy and simple the treatment process is.
